Professor Colin Drummond - SCAN Lead

Professor Colin Drummond - SCAN Lead

Colin is Professor of Addiction Psychiatry at the National Addiction Centre of the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, and is a consultant psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. As the head of the section of alcohol research at the Institute of Psychiatry he leads a team of researchers working on several projects looking mainly at estimating the prevalence of addiction problems and improving treatment methods, particularly psychological treatment approaches. Colin has led the SCAN team since its inception in 2003.

Amy Wolstenholme - SCAN Project Coordinator (Acting)

Amy Wolstenholme - SCAN Project Coordinator

Amy joined the SCAN team in 2004 from the Department for Education and Skills and Department of Health in England, where she worked as a Project Officer in Children's Trusts. Prior to this Amy worked in the property industry in Andalucia, Spain, and in her local community pharmacy in Aberdeen. She has an MA (Hons) in Hispanic Studies and is currently undertaking an MSc at King's College London.

Rebecca Murchie - SCAN Project Administrator

Rebecca Murchie - SCAN Project Administrator

Rebecca Murchie is a New Zealander from Christchurch, and joined the SCAN team in October 2007 after a temporary administrator post in the Standards and Inspection team, at the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse. Rebecca has a BA in Psychology from the University of Canterbury, and previously worked in New Zealand for Academy Publishing as an Advertising Consultant.

Dr Sally Braithwaite

Dr Sally Braithwaite

Dr Sally Braithwaite is a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist working for a Community Drug and Alcohol team in Surrey and Borders Partnership Trust. She has interests in decision making styles and impulsivity in addiction as well as nutritional aspects of psychiatry.

Dr Jonathan Dewhurst

Dr Jonathan Dewhurst

Jonathan has trained in addiction psychiatry at Soho Alcohol Treatment Service and Chelsea & Westminster Drug Treatment Centre. He is currently a Specialist Registrar in liaison psychiatry in London and hopes to return to addiction psychiatry as a consultant. He enjoys working with clients with both alcohol and drug problems, and those with dual diagnosis. His areas of interest are psychosocial interventions, psychopharmacology in addictions, service delivery and medical education.

Vignesh Sakthivel

Vignesh Sakthivel

Vignesh is a ST5 trainee working in Liverpool Addiction Services, Mersey Care NHS Trust. He has particular interest in delivering and improving services in the Prison DDU. He is also interested in getting to know about the drug policies and the way drug services function in different countries. Further, he is currently doing Masters in Addiction Studies.

Lihini Gunawardana - ST5 trainee

Lihini Gunawardana

Lihini Gunawardana is an ST5 trainee in general adult psychiatry. She is working in addictions in Cardiff but from March 2010 she will be transferring to Leeds where she will continue to work in addictions. Her interests are in dual diagnosis and getting to know the way that different addictions services work and medical education.

Dr. Anshul Swami - Specialist Registrar

Dr. Anshul Swami

Dr. Anshul Swami is a Specialist Registrar in General Adult Psychiatry and Addictions at the Maudsley Hospital in London. He has worked in both inpatient and community addictions. His specialist research interest is nicotine dependence in mental health.

Eleanor Holliday - Specialist Registrar

Eleanor Holliday

Eleanor Holliday is currently a Specialist Registrar working within Nottingham Substance Misuse Service, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. She finds working with clients with alcohol and substance misuse problems rewarding, and enjoys the interface with physical and mental health. After finishing her training she hopes to continue working in the field of addiction psychiatry.
