NEW FACILITY: Special Interest Sessions in Addiction Psychiatry
The SCAN Survey of Specialist Registrars in Addiction 2006 showed variable training opportunities in addiction psychiatry around the UK. A subsequent survey was carried out of consultant psychiatrists in addiction, to identify special interest sessions which were available throughout England. 41 consultants were able to offer special interest opportunities, covering a diverse range of sessions on in/outpatient drugs/alcohol as well in other specialist areas.
SCAN is pleased to launch this facility for SpR and ST 4-6 trainees. It allows access to the opportunities available, their location, and the relevant contact details. Please follow this link to access the searchable database allowing trainees to identify sessions by region, subject of special interest and/or name of consultant. A full report of the survey can be found here
SCAN addiction psychiatry meeting for trainees and new consultants - June 2009
ADVANCE NOTIFICATION!
Due to popular demand this event will again be held at the Francis Hotel in Bath on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th June 2009.
We are developing themes for this conference which relate to the role of the consultant psychiatrist in addiction, new advances in drugs and specific interventions, and medico-legal aspects of addiction psychiatry.
An exciting new development for this year is the introduction of a Poster Presentation competition. This will be open to all delegates. We will be inviting submission of abstracts for consideration in the New Year. This is a great opportunity for trainees to present their work at a national level.
Further details to follow soon...!
The SCAN project is funded by the Department of Health and jointly supported by the Department of Health, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse.
